Wax melts are a fantastic way to add some fragrance to your home and make it smell great, but they can also be a bit of a mess. These wax melts are made of wax, which can stain carpets if they get spilled and aren't cleaned up right away. Thankfully, there are several ways that you can remove the wax from your carpet and ensure that it doesn't leave behind any stains or residue:
Scrape the wax off with a butter knife.
Use a butter knife to scrape the wax off of the carpet. The wax will come right up with minimal effort, and you'll be left with a clean carpet.
Use a credit card or plastic scraper to lift and remove the wax.
You can use a plastic scraper or a credit card to lift and remove the wax. Hold the scraper in one hand and rest it on top of the carpet with its edge against the wax. Gently push down on the scraper, sliding it across the carpet as you go so that you scrape up all of the wax at once. If there are any pieces of hardened wax left behind, pick them out with your fingers before moving forward with this step.
Repeat until all of your melted candle remnants have been removed from your carpeting
Put ice in a bag and use it to freeze the wax.
If your wax melts are fresh and still soft, you can use a bag of ice to speed up the process. Put the bag on top of the melted wax for about 5 minutes, then remove it and wipe away with a paper towel. This should help loosen up any sticky residue.
It's also important to note that this method won't work if your carpet has already been cleaned by professional cleaners or taken in for dry cleaning (unless they have an industrial-sized dewaxer).
Use an iron.
To remove wax melts from your carpet, use an iron. Make sure to use a low heat setting and don't steam the carpet. Also be careful not to touch the iron directly on your carpet or leave it sitting there for too long.
You should immediately clean up any spills
Wax melts are fun to look at, but they're not so fun to clean up. If you have a wax melt spill, it's important to act quickly and get the wax cleaned up before it hardens or dries.
Wax melts are made primarily from wax, so when they dry on carpets and other surfaces, they can be difficult and time-consuming to remove. To properly clean a melted wax spill from your carpet, follow these steps:
-
Use paper towels or rags to soak up as much of the melted product as possible (this helps prevent any further damage).
-
Take care not to touch the sticky residue left behind with bare hands—it's best if you wear rubber gloves while doing this step if possible.
-
Use either warm water or rubbing alcohol (depending on whether you want an emulsive effect) with an old toothbrush on all areas where waxy residue remains visible in order remove any remaining bits that may be stuck on; then place 1 cup salt into a large bowl filled halfway with water and add enough vinegar until its pH level is between 4-5. Pour this solution over affected area(s), let sit for 30 minutes per every pound of fabric surface weight involved then rinse thoroughly using cold water only!
You can clean up most spills by simply scraping the wax off with a butter knife or credit card. If you’re not sure whether you’ve got an iron on hand, just plug it in and see if it heats up. If so, you’re good to go!
